If you’re like most automotive dealers, the top item on your holiday wish list is “more online shoppers at my dealership.” Well…we’ve got good and bad news for you.
The bad news is that online shoppers don’t fit in Santa’s sleigh.
The good news, though, is that you can bring them into the dealership on your own – you just need a few simple hacks. Here’s how to do it.
1. Understand Your Target Audience
You’ll have a better chance of snagging those online shoppers if you understand who you’re targeting.
After all, there are about 7.4 billion people on earth, and trying to get them all to visit your dealership is unrealistic. With this in mind,conduct target audience research before the holidays.
Next, use that information to create targeted advertisements, video marketing, and content that makes online shoppers want to see you in person.
2. Make the In-Store Experience Unique
They don’t call it an in-store experience for nothing.
The primary reason people shop online is that it’s fast and straightforward, but it doesn’t offer the same tangibility and excitement as shopping in-store. With this in mind, make your in-dealership experience such that it blows the online offerings out of the water.
Consider utilizing tech-forward approaches like VR kiosks and test drives in your showroom, and going above and beyond to provide an excellent dealership experience for your customers.
3. Offer Holiday Specials
What better way to draw customers into your dealership than with the promise of holiday savings?
Over the next few months, offer holiday specials and promotions that will appeal to your target audience. The more enticing and targeted you make these specials, the higher your in-store dealership numbers will be.
4. Use Social Media
In 2015, Facebook reported a 26% increase in uploads between November 1- January 1. With this in mind, publicize your in-store promotions and events by sharing them on social media.
Not only does this allow you to turn online shoppers into in-store customers, but it enables customers who have visited you to share the event with their friends!

While capturing online shoppers can feel like a tough puzzle to solve, the answer is simple:
Make your in-dealership experience a unique one, create promotions and share them on social, and understand who your customers are.
